The A.C.T. Winter Campout is from Friday the 13th July and rolling out on Monday the 16th July 2018. We’ve opted to not go full alpine, but a lower elevation instead; and this new riverside camp site is more accessible as it’s not as remote, with the roads suitable for 2WD, caravans, and pets are welcome too. Now that’s a rare thing.
The campout will be an excellent chance to get to know other members better and share knowledge and insights. We will be going on hikes investigating the area for possible habituation signs, and there’s a fairly good chance of that as Ren has researched and found not one, but two recent reports of Yowie encounters in this area in 2003 and 2017.
While there you could head up through the forest for a day trip to the Copeland Tops State Conservation area and visit the historic Mountain Maids Gold Mine; or try your own luck fossiking for gold, sapphires and other gems in the gravels of the creeks in the area. Or drive in for a warm counter meal at a Gloucester pub. It’s gonna be cold so bring your gumboots, woollies and thermals. ? But nothing that good company and a campfire can’t fix , but you’ll need to bring your own firewood and torches, lots of torches cause it’s going to be dark. Oh and there’s a little bush luxury with a glamping dunny too ??
